Can you remove the penny with your fingers without causing the match that is slanted to fall away from the upright match?

Stand the cover of the match box on its side, with the scratching surface up. Sharpen the untreated end of a wooden match, and stick it in the upper side of the cover, fairly close to the end. Against the head of this match, rest the head of the second match. Hold the second one in position by placing a penny against its untreated end.

Light the third match and ignite the heads of both matches.

The second match will curl away from the penny, and you will be able to pick up the penny without causing the second match to fall away from the first.
 
Materials: Three matches, a penny, a safety-match box and a knife.

For safety reasons, place match box on a fire resistant surface.
